Inventory market holidays are non-weekend enterprise days when the 2 main U.S. inventory exchanges, the New York Inventory Alternate (NYSE) and the Nasdaq, are closed for the day. Lately typically intently observe federal vacation schedules and embody main holidays like Independence Day and Thanksgiving.

Common working hours for each exchanges are Monday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. ET. Markets don’t function throughout the weekend.

  • Wednesday, June 19, 2024 — Juneteenth Nationwide Independence Day
  • Thursday, July 4, 2024 — Independence Day
  • Monday, Sept. 2, 2024 — Labor Day
  • Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024 — Thanksgiving Day
  • Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024 — Christmas Day

Extra bond market holidays

  • Monday, Oct. 14, 2024 — Columbus Day
  • Monday, Nov. 11, 2024 — Veterans Day

The Securities Business and Monetary Markets (SIFMA) gives this vacation schedule as a suggestion for bond markets and is topic to alter. (Right here’s a listing of days when banks are closed for the vacations, too.)

Early inventory market closures

The inventory market usually follows its vacation schedule with none further early closures, except the day earlier than Independence Day, Black Friday and Christmas Eve, when the Nasdaq and NYSE shut at 1 p.m. ET.

  • July 3, 2024 — Day earlier than Independence Day
  • Nov. 29, 2024 — Day after Thanksgiving
  • Dec. 24, 2024 — Christmas Eve

Bond market early closures

Bond markets, nevertheless, have some early and extra closures all year long. Bond markets shut early, at 2 p.m. ET, on the next days:

  • March 28, 2024 — Day earlier than Good Friday
  • Could 24, 2024 — Friday earlier than Memorial Day
  • July 3, 2024 — Day earlier than Independence Day
