Who are your money heroes?
Obviously there’s Warren Buffet who has so much wisdom and experience in the industry. I also admire my aggregate pools of friends and family. There is so much to learn from their different experiences. I value your opinion very much.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I like to spend my time outdoors, preferably on or near the water. Being active outside makes the world a playground. When I’m outside all I can think about is what I’m doing and how it makes me feel. It’s so liberating. Spending time with my daughters outside and seeing them enjoy that feeling too is a bonus.
If money were no object, what would you do now?
Ski or kitesurf all over the world. And end each day with a beer with family and friends.
What was your earliest memory of money?
My earliest memory of money is when I used my weekly allowance to buy candy at my local candy store. I learned early on the value of money and that you have to be selective about what you invest in to get the most out of it. Back then it was all about what candy to buy. In the end it all came down to which candy I liked best, but it still taught me how to spend my money wisely.
what was your first job
My first job was working as a waiter at my local sports club. I originally got the job for scratching my family car; I knew it was my responsibility to pay my parents back for the damage. That’s where my first paycheck went. However, I continued to work in the sports club.
What was the biggest money lesson you learned as an adult?
Money should not dictate any of your life decisions. If I had done that, I wouldn’t be in the position I am in today. I am so thankful to work at Adyen which has such a great company culture. I love coming to work every day. I also have complete faith in the company’s mission to power the future of payments, especially in Canada.
What’s the best money advice you’ve ever received?
“Buy a house now.” That was such a big milestone in my life.
What was the worst money advice you’ve ever received?
“Get into crypto. Everyone does it.”
