Podcast #295 – Understanding Generation Z and the new world of work
Description:
In this episode, I speak to Sophie Wade, author of Empathy Works: The Key to Competitive Advantage in the New Era of Work. We’re going to talk about the newest generation in the workplace, Gen Z, and how we need to adapt to them.
This is a topical issue as people are now returning to the office, at least part-time, and Gen Z has entered the workforce during the pandemic. I’m all for the multi-generational workforce, but Gen Z are starting their careers at very uncertain times. We will discuss many aspects of how to work with and lead our younger Gen Z colleagues and employees.
Let me read you something from her biography from her website SophieWade.com:
Sophie Wade is a speaker, author and authority on the future of work. Her book Embracing Progress: Next Steps for the Future of Work is a textbook for the Executive MBA program and required reading for several leadership courses in management schools.
Sophie is a Founder and Workforce Innovation Specialist at Flexcel Network, a future of work consultancy. Sophie’s leadership consulting work and transformational workshops help organizations future-proof their work environments and attract, engage and retain their cross-generational and distributed talent. It helps organizations maximize benefits and minimize disruption in their transition to talent-driven new work environments.
Sophie has held senior management, strategy and finance roles globally – in Asia, Europe and the US – and has worked in media, technology and venture capital for companies such as IMG and Yahoo. With a focus on strategy and finance in her early career, she helped entrepreneurs and large corporations identify, develop and execute strategic initiatives, build teams and ventures, and build partnerships.
